The creator of this Simpsons take-off on Edvard Munch’s The Scream uses dissonant imagery, but preserves the tone of the original work and applies it to a new context. Homer is comically imbued with the social anxiety portrayed in that famous painting.

Post Modernism is something that’s done after, to challenge the idea of art. Appropriation is one of the examples of post modernism. The idea of appropriation is to re-use an exist work and change parts of it to recreate another idea of the artwork.

The image above is an artwork that I did; I chose to appropriate “the old guitarist” by Pablo Picasso and form it into a Chinese eunuch playing the guitar. This changes the concept of the idea effectively. The idea of the original old guitarist, which is done in the “Blue period”, gives a sense of sorrowness and tragical feel. The colours are just brown and blue which is quite dull as if the guitarist is hopeless. So, I did a new one with my own cultural idea as a Chinese, I have come up an idea of making the guitarist into a Chinese Eunuch for fun, as it have sharp colours. The idea is although the Chinese Eunuch has great clothes, he is still quite lonely and helpless.

Photographer Freddy Fabris spent years wanting to pay homage to the legendary artworks of great Renaissance master painters, but figuring out how to do so with his camera was a challenge. Recently, he finally came up with an idea that blends the style of old with ideas that are new: it’s a series of portraits of car mechanics in a repair shop, created with the look and feel of Renaissance paintings.
